Eager Taye Diggs Opens Up About Co-Parenting with Idina Menzel:
Taye Diggs has revealed the key to maintaining a healthy co-parenting relationship with ex-wife Idina Menzel, emphasizing their mutual commitment to putting their son, Walker, first.
In a recent interview, the Set It Up star, 54, shared that their approach has always been straightforward. “We’ve always tried to put [our son] first. Because we do that, it doesn’t really leave room for us to speak negatively about each other,” he told Us Weekly.
Diggs explained that their focus on their son’s well-being has allowed them to foster a positive and supportive dynamic. “The more we all can get along, the better it is for him, and the more love and positive energy he gets,” he added.
The former couple met while starring in Rent on Broadway in 1995, later marrying in 2003 and welcoming their son in 2009. They announced their split in 2013, with their divorce finalized in 2015. Menzel has since remarried, tying the knot with actor Aaron Lohr in 2017.
Despite their separation, Diggs has consistently praised Menzel, calling himself “lucky” to have been part of her journey. “I love sharing that with my son—like, ‘Daddy was there when Mommy, when the world first listened to her,’” he shared.
Menzel, known as the Queen of Broadway, originated the role of Elphaba in Wicked and won a Tony Award for her performance. The musical’s film adaptation, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, topped the box office last year.
Through it all, Diggs and Menzel have remained dedicated to ensuring their son grows up in a loving, harmonious environment. “We’re pretty proud of the way we’ve handled our relationship. Hopefully, it will continue,” Diggs concluded.
