Texas Democratic Rep. Al Green announced plans to introduce articles of impeachment against former President Donald Trump, following his controversial suggestion that the U.S. should take over the Gaza Strip. Green condemned Trump’s comments, calling them “dastardly deeds” and accusing him of endorsing actions that amounted to “ethnic cleansing.”
Trump’s suggestion came during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, where he proposed that the U.S. take responsibility for rebuilding Gaza, which has been devastated by ongoing conflict. Green and other Democrats expressed outrage, emphasizing the gravity of Trump’s words and likening the proposal to inflaming an already tense situation.
Green, who was a key figure in Trump’s first impeachment in 2017, reiterated that he would once again champion the cause for impeachment, framing it as a fight for justice. He urged a grassroots movement to demand action from lawmakers.
