Eggs Recalled in Several States Over Salmonella Concerns

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has announced a recall of several egg brands due to possible salmonella contamination, affecting multiple provinces.

The recall applies to eggs sold under the brands Compliments, Foremost, Golden Valley Eggs, IGA, no name, and Western Family, with expiration dates of February 16, February 22, and March 1.

Currently, the recall impacts British Columbia, Ontario, and Manitoba, but it may extend to other provinces or territories. Alberta and Saskatchewan were initially listed but have since been excluded from the advisory. The CFIA is urging consumers not to eat, serve, or use the recalled eggs. Instead, they recommend throwing them out or returning them to the store for a refund.

The agency cautions that salmonella-contaminated food may look and smell fine but can still pose health risks.

In healthy individuals, symptoms of salmonella include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. However, the infection can be much more serious—potentially even life-threatening—for young children, pregnant women, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems.
