Gabriel Martinelli and Mikel Merino are back in the starting lineup as they face off against Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium this Saturday.
Raheem Sterling and William Saliba are the two players stepping out of the lineup from Wednesday night’s North London Derby victory. Sterling drops to the bench, while Saliba is left out completely—he had played every single minute of our last seven games since December 21.
This brings about a defensive adjustment, with Thomas Partey likely starting at right back and Jurrien Timber teaming up with Gabriel in central defense. Myles Lewis-Skelly retains his spot at left back after his standout performance earlier this week.
In midfield, Mikel Merino lines up alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. Up front, Martinelli joins forces with Wednesday’s hero, Leandro Trossard, and Kai Havertz.
As for the visitors, they’ve made just one change to the team that defeated Everton 1-0 midweek. Ian Maatsen comes in for Lucas Digne at left back. Their new signing, Donyell Malen—formerly part of our youth academy and recently signed from Borussia Dortmund—is listed among the substitutes.
