Frasier‘s comeback has hit a major snag. Paramount+ has decided not to renew the Kelsey Grammer-led comedy for a third season. However, CBS Studios, the show’s producer, is still fully behind the series and plans to shop it to other networks.

CBS, the most obvious home for a multi-camera sitcom that originally aired on broadcast, is unlikely to be one of those networks. The channel is already tied up with other comedy projects, including a potential spinoff of The Neighborhood, and just doesn’t have room for another show. That leaves platforms like Prime Video and Hulu, both of which already have the original Frasier episodes available. Seasons 1 and 2 of the revival, along with the classic episodes, will stay on Paramount+.

Despite the recognizable name and Grammer returning to his iconic role, Frasier didn’t manage to break through on Paramount+, which has become more focused on drama series and is home to franchises like Taylor Sheridan’s shows and Star Trek.

The new Frasier was the only multi-camera sitcom on the platform, alongside Colin From Accounts, an international co-production that’s been getting positive buzz and is expected to continue.

The show follows Frasier Crane as he returns to Boston to tackle new challenges, form new relationships, and hopefully fulfill some old dreams. It stars Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst as Alan, Frasier’s old college buddy turned university professor, and Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the psychology department. Jess Salgueiro plays Eve, Frasier and Freddy’s neighbor, and Anders Keith stars as Frasier’s nephew, David.

While the main cast was new, fans saw plenty of familiar faces, like Bebe Neuwirth as Frasier’s ex-wife Lilith, Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle, Dan Butler as Bob “Bulldog” Briscoe, Edward Hibbert as Gil Chesterton, and Harriet Sansom Harris as Frasier’s manipulative agent, Bebe Glazer. Grammer also expressed his hope to see Shelley Long return as Diane Chambers in a future season during an interview with Deadline at the Emmys last January.
