Saudi Crown Prince hosts Italian Prime Minister Meloni in AlUla.
On Sunday, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to the winter camp in AlUla. The two leaders held talks aimed at strengthening their countries’ ties, discussing how to boost cooperation in various sectors for mutual benefit. They also shared insights on regional and international matters of mutual concern.
The Crown Prince extended a warm welcome to Meloni, who expressed her excitement about visiting Saudi Arabia and meeting with the Crown Prince. Their discussions took place at the “House of Poetry,” where Meloni was introduced to the rich heritage and culture of Saudi Arabia. Traditional Saudi dance and performances showcased the nation’s deep cultural roots.
At the conclusion of their meeting, the Crown Prince and Meloni signed a landmark agreement to create the Saudi-Italian Strategic Partnership Council, solidifying the relationship between the two nations.
The meeting was attended by numerous high-ranking officials from both Saudi Arabia and Italy, including Saudi ministers, princes, and ambassadors like Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and Italian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Carlo Baldocci.
Earlier that day, Meloni arrived in AlUla with her delegation and was warmly greeted at AlUla International Airport by key figures such as the Emir of Madinah and the Saudi Ambassador to Italy.
The timing of the visit is notable, coinciding with significant political developments in the region that call for closer coordination between Saudi Arabia and Italy. Their discussions focused on enhancing cooperation on security, stability, and energy, as well as the shared objective of finding a fair resolution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution and international law.
The economic relationship between the two countries was also a focal point. Saudi Arabia is Italy’s second-largest trading partner in the region, with trade totaling about $10.8 billion in 2023. Over 150 Italian companies operate in Saudi Arabia, contributing significantly to its economy. Both countries are also focused on long-term collaboration in the renewable energy sector, with Saudi Arabia investing heavily in carbon neutrality and Italy offering its extensive expertise.
Meloni’s visit underscores Italy’s recognition of Saudi Arabia’s growing global influence, both politically and economically, and highlights the Kingdom’s key role in shaping both regional and international affairs.
